Choctaws and ranchers in the area lobbied for the Fort Worth & Denver City Railroad to be built into the town. This helped the town develop.
In addition to a large school system, two of the schools offer the International Baccalaureate Programme. The city also has several private and parochial educational institutions.
Lucy Park
This 178 acre park is situated in a river bend. This park features a large outdoor pool, a nature centre, and paved paths for biking and hiking. Two large picnic shelters, as well as a log-cabin are available in the park.
The main trail, a 2-mile loop, is perfect for hikers regardless of age or fitness level. The main trail is broken up into many smaller paths, which are great for bird watching or just taking in the scenery.
Lucy Park is home to a man-made waterfall that creates a beautiful scene. This spot makes for a great photo opportunity. Ducks and Geese flock to the pond in Lucy Park all year round. A playground and picnic tables are available for children.
Wichita Falls Waterfall
Wichita Falls TX is a city that has something to offer everyone. From nature exploration and history, to Tex-Mex food and local brews. Lucy Park houses the 54-foot replica of Wichita Falls’ namesake, which was a manmade attraction built after the original waterfall was swept out by floods.
Backdoor Theatre in an old opera house, built in 1908, is a place where performing arts are performed. The Kell House Museum describes the lifestyle of an influential early family. Museum of North Texas History features artifacts of Wild West.

Depot Square
Depot Square Historic District is six blocks long and has many historic buildings. This is an excellent place to visit while in Wichita Falls. Many of these old buildings are now shops and restaurants. Enjoying the architecture and walking around the area is a great way to spend the afternoon.
Lucy Park is a popular place to visit. This 178-acre green park features flower gardens and tranquil waterfalls. Kay Yeager Coliseum is located here, and hosts hockey games as well as other events.
Highlander Public House will satisfy your desire for a pub. The restaurant has a wide range of food, including steaks, burgers and mac and cheese. Interiors include deep-colored tables made of wood, tall walls with vintage posters, and vintage prints.
Wichita Falls Vineyards & Winery
A winery located in the quiet countryside offers an upscale wine tasting experience. The winery has a variety of wines both from around the world and even from Africa. The staff are friendly and knowledgable about wine. There are also events, such as wine pairings and stargazing.
Alton Gates’ wife Lana is passionate about her craft. They hand-watered grape vines for the first year. Now they produce a variety wines including Wichita Red which is a white Zinfandel Sangiovese mixture that won a medal in 2004.
The 4B board, in a closed meeting, voted $25,000 to be donated by the sales tax revenues of the 6th Street Winery. The funds will be used to cover costs for utilities, concrete alley repairs, and asbestos removal.
Wichita Falls Aquatic Center
The Wichita Falls Aquatic Center has a family-friendly atmosphere with a safe, clean environment. On the premises, inappropriate language and behavior are prohibited. Smoking in the premises is strictly prohibited. Inspections are conducted by health inspectors throughout the entire year to make sure that the facility meets public health standards.
Safari Falls is an interactive splash park that features zero-depth water, a large, elephant-shaped slide, and interactive structures with water sprays. It is also accessible to the handicapped.
Homewood Suites By Hilton is just a short drive away from Midwestern State University. Sheppard Air Force Base is only a 20 minute drive. The hotel has a pool and a hot-tub, as well as modern suites equipped with a flat screen TV.
